My kids love playdough. Like absolutely LOVE it!! Because of this simple fact, I wanted to create a fun Halloween activity for them to do, that included playdough. After browsing Pinterest and gaining some inspiration, I decided to set out an invitation with Halloween odds and ends, cookie cutters and some freshly made playdough. You can collect items from around the house or grab a few from the dollar store (I did both).
I am team cooked playdough and have been making it that way for years. I use the same recipe my mom used when I was little! My kids love playing with it fresh out of the pot, when it`s warm. However, today I decided to mix things up and try a no-cook playdough recipe. As I mixed it up, I was skeptical about the results, but then all of a sudden the dough came together beautifully. I used the recipe below and added gel coloring and glitter to our playdough!
- 2 cups Flour
- 1 cup Salt
- 3 tablespoons Cream of Tarter
- 2 cups Boiling Water
- Food Coloring (Optional)
- Glitter (Optional)
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir until smooth!
I set out the supplies and called the kids to come inside to play, as the weather was getting quite chilly. Kristine just happened to be here, so a few of her kids and my kids got creative with the Halloween playdough! They all dug right in and were so excited by the odds and ends. Each one of them created something completely different. I love that!!
There were many monsters, a few volcanoes, spiderwebs and spiders, skeletons, pumpkins and even a cat!
Usually mixed playdough drives me nuts! It`s the neat freak in me coming out, but this marbled ball of Halloween playdough was too pretty!
With a small bit of planning, this simple Halloween activity is sure to inspire any child to create!
