Happy February 1st!! We are officially in the month of all things red, pink and heart shaped! Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays, because it just seems to give everyone that extra little push to tell each other how much they love them. Heart Attacks, not the medical kind, but the plastering someone’s door/wall/locker/mirror with hearts with/without messages have been all over Pinterest for years. I love seeing them, because I can imagine how happy and special the recipient feels when they see all the love! I particularly liked this one by Skip To My Lou, where she attached the hearts to her children’s doors. Such a great idea!
I decided to spread the love this month and I plan to attach a heart to my littles’ bedroom doors everyday until Valentine’s Day, with reasons why I love them or things that make them special. I hope these daily words of affirmation will help lift them up and make them feel as special as they truly are!
Materials + Supplies
- Scissors (or a cutting machine, I used my Silhouette Cameo)
- Pens, Pencils or Crayons
- Cut out a whole pile of hearts! You can do this a few ways … You could hand draw them OR You could create a heart template on cardboard + trace a bunch of hearts OR You could use your printer to print hearts on the wrong side of the paper, to use as a guideline OR You could use a cutting machine, like the Silhouette Cameo. I did the last option + in no time I had a whole pile of perfectly cut hearts.
2. Write sweet messages to the people you love!
3 Tape them up on their bedroom doors. You can add one heart each day or put them all up at once.
While I was cutting out my hearts, I added in a few letters so that I could string some simple XOXO banners to add to their doors too. I wrote each of my littles something encouraging or something that I loved about them and taped the heart and the banners up on their doors. “You are SO special!”, “I love to hear you laugh!”, “I love your thirst for knowledge!”. I cannot wait to see their sweet smiles when they come home from school!
Of course, I couldn’t leave out my other half … I have all the heart eyes for this guy!! I made another banner to hang up on our bedroom door that says “Heart Eyes” and plan to add hearts daily for him as well.
To help encourage everyone else in our home to spread the love too, I put all the supplies needed to write their own messages on a tray, on our coffee table. I think it would be fun for everyone to add hearts (not just me!) and to get us all thinking about the positive attributes and things we love about each other. It is so easy to focus on the negative, especially between siblings, that I think it will be so nice for them to spread the love to each other!
Now go spread the love around your own home, because those sweet little smiles will be oh so worth it!
